While I love the different wardrobes you designed, the anatomy is a bit off on the main picture. Her spine would be broken is she tried to show off both her butt and breasts in that manner. :/

no???

i can bend like that.

it's all in spinal flexibility.

do i need to provide pictures of people doing "spine breaking" poses?

ShadowOfNights Featured By Owner Dec 21, 2013  Professional Digital Artist
Noooooo. This is called an Escher Pose, where you get a frontal view of both the butt and breasts in order to show off a woman's feminine features in an unrealistic manner. While her breasts in this picture aren't completely frontal, her spine should be snapping right where her hand is on her hip. The spine isn't a rubber band. There are people who are flexible, true, but I doubt the artist put this character in that pose to show off her "flexibility".

Currently, from where the shoulder is placed and how the arm is moving back, her spine should be doing a sharp 45 degree angle, which would snap it. Now if the butt was just a little less frontal or that second side boob wasn't showing, it'd be a little better.

I agree with about 80% of what you're saying. The left butt cheek could have been cut of a bit and the left leg could have fell behind her right leg. This would have made the image a lot more believable. Yet at the same time, IMO, we have to stop poking about anatomy. It's like beating a dead horse. You're arguing realism for a CARTOON character. There are no elves with long ears, or trolls with green skin, so why expect a cartoon human to stand like a real one. We can't expect every artist who does Escher Poses to be like, "yeah this character is a contortionist, I did this on purpose".

If it looks like a pretty picture then kudos. If its just ugly, then its just ugly. Can't ask for more than that.

Ok, I see what you are saying but there is one thing I disagree with. NEVER stop poking about faults in art or anatomy. Saying it's beating a dead horse is basically saying you have no more room for improvement, which is false. It is the way we get better. If everyone just said, 'oh it's a cartoon, so it doesn't need proper anatomy' then artists might never learn what they are doing wrong. If Precia-T saw my comment and said 'Yeah ok I get it, but I wanted it this way' or 'screw it, I like the spine like this' then that's totally fine! But perhaps, if at one point she saw this and was like 'Oh I didn't even know' then I might have just helped her out.

Precia-T's work is very realistic in trying to portray people and figures. She put up a freakin' 'Female anatomy drawing' just recently for peke's sakes. Some of her other works have perfect anatomy for her so called 'cartoon' characters so why shouldn't this one.

If my tone sounds a little ticked, it's because I am and I apologize. You didn't really say anything horrible (not to mention you didn't just go 'BLEH YOU'RE WRONG' )(which is always nice), it's just. . . ooo you got under my skin with that dead horse thing. If you believe that left butt cheek could have been cut of a bit and the left leg was off, why didn't you say something! That would have been much more productive then a comment going 'Nice job. She's hot.' Which is fine too. I write comments like those too. But I've never gotten this much snip from one of those comments.

I complimented her wardrobes because I really do like them but I also gave her a polite critique about something I thought could use a little work. If she agrees, cool; if not, then that's cool too.

Well, I never told her Nice job or She's hot at all. In fact I would've never said that because I do agree that the pose is WAY OFF.
Sorry to get under your skin, I just had to point out that I seen this anatomy cry so much, that it drives me nuttier than the awful art out there. It's like arguing about politics or religion. I don't see a change on the horizon. Sorry again. But you're right, you might have saved one more artist from making that mistake again, who knows. But if you see 20 images like this today, are you really going to say something to all of them. I highly doubt it. You know as much as I do... they're everywhere.

Can't comment on them all, that's true. But it never stops me from trying. It's like homeless people. They're everywhere but you should never stop trying to help them out. Yeah I know, art not at extreme as that. If anything I might have just insulted the struggle of homelessness a little bit right there . . .  but you get it.

But I get it too, sometimes there's just too much and it becomes overwhelming. It's all good. I wasn't that upset about it anyway and it's just your opinion.

You must be confusing having assets for being fat which is how it may be in other countries. I know in many places though she's far from fat, excuses for fat people, me included, aside. She's a beautiful character whatever you'd like to call her.

I like the outfits but you seem to have broken her spin in the larger pose.  If you can find an woman who is not a contortionist and can twist that far round then I would be very surprised.
Also, as I'm sure you know, she's dead skinny and not fat at all.
But as I said, I enjoyed the costumes. The top-left one is very classy.

No, your grasp of the human figure in general is very good, and the face-on images are very skilfully executed.

I know it's a common thing in drawings of women to have them twist round and and show off their boobs and butt at the same time (google The Hawkeye Initiative for some crazy lady poses!), but there are other smarter ways to make a woman look sexy that don't involve breaking her spine.  Just try the pose yourself in front of a mirror first, and you'll be able to tell if it's realistic or not.
Keep up the good work!

"Fat", but she has the waist of a corseted Victorian lady. "Fat" but she conforms to the "ideal" womanly shape of an exaggerated, usually unobtainable hourglass figure. Right.
