COMMISSIONS ARE CLOSED

Hi!
I have some important information for the commissioners that are still on the list waiting for their commissions.
I have had a lot of trouble lately with proper contanct and some other issues between me and my customers. So I thought to make mine and your life easier I will write down what's the most common problems that appears and that I ask you to avoid if possible:

1. Not reading my notes - I always write + - the same thing to all of commissioners. I'm giving  a thumb of charcter questionarry and I always write this:

And very important: PLEASE write the answers to that questionarry in a comment under the questionarry.

With two spaces between the lines to make it more visible. 8 people out of 10 people sent me note back with character description .____.

2. Giving me references that you don't like - I ask for the references only if commissioner likes those references. And it happened to me before that I did the sketch or headshots and commissioner said it's fine but I came along with refs that he hates and we have to change this, this, this and that.

3. Forgetting about payment or treating it like the less important issue - it happens very often that people don't pay me like I ask, before I start to draw. I always send  a note with price, then a second note with my paypal and all the info about the way of payment because I want to avoid awkward situation or asking for money. So I do those headshots without the payment but then some commissioners give me no choice other then ask for money again.
Other thing is paypal and it's options. It's written in english, so the most of my commissioners language, and I sometimes end up explaining very simple, basic options while for sure it's harder for me to understand the formal english. And it doesn't cost much of effort for native to read three lines about it.

4. Not reading the commission info and 'prices' - "all the commission info you will find on  my main page>big button above the journal> Commission info" - I wrote it over 70 times since january. Or if the commissions are open - even more common then commission info question But usually not for commissioners from the list. So it's different but whats in common, that people are asking me when to pay or how much to pay. Thats why probably  number 3 happens :D

5. Are mistaking Commission with taking part in kind of a project - That doesn't happen very often so just letting you know. Character sheets are sketches but I started to pay more attention to lines because I don't feel comfortable with selling low quality sketches even if people want to buy them. But it still should be refined sketch instead of hyper technical drawing. It happened that I was asked to change small details and that commissioner didn't have exact idea in their head but also didn't want to let me design their character. So since I can't read in minds (Although day after day I am better in it) it ends up with changing the sketch too many times and me resigning from the commission.

So I decided to resign from all commissions that you know exactly how your character look like but you have no reference.

6. Wrong descriptions - I made a character sheet questionarry that contain 16 questions that provide all the information I need. But it happens quite often that people write characters biography or family connections or some shortenings of their story instead of characterisation, personality. I need mostly adjectives describing their look/personality. Since I draw, make sure that all the answers are the answers for the drawer not for the other writer or publisher. Think how your character looks like. Hair colour and eye colours are sometimes ignored but thats very important if we talk about apperiance. Age is one of the most important thing but 300000 years doesn't give me a clue if it's just a sexy female in her 20's with magical abilities or very, very, old skeleton ;) I need the age of their apperiance, if you don't know write child/teenage/young adult/ adult/elder
Good description is not long description but shorter and very concrete/definite.

7. Not proper way of communication -  I ask for skype because it helps to keep order, I have all the information about commissioner and their character under one nickname. Chatting is easy and there is an option 'share monitor' very helpful with more complex drawings. I know some of you don't use skype. It's easy to download, easy to install and free but I understand if people don't have time to do that.
Then if there are no other option I give my e-mail. But it usually end up with many notes and e-mails entitled re:re:re:re:re: hi!. So now  imagine that I'm receiving dozens of e-mails everyday and people give  me rere:re:re: hi! e-mail with info that they  forgot to mention something about her dress. So.
FOR THOSE WHO DON"T HAVE SKYPE:
Please prepare your description even now. Even if you are somewhere there in the list. You will always have this proper nice description not only for me but also for yourself and other commissioners. Written Description in one piece, finished and final. Then when it comes to your turn just copy that, paste into e-mail window , add references , give it a proper title like : "Name of the character" description  and were done with only one e-mail.

8. Not being online - When we start to work together it happens sometimes that people are not being online on skype but they are online on deviantart. And it happened that anytime I had to ask about something I first had to send a note asking to come online.
I know people have to wait for me for a long time and I respect you for not having problem with waiting. And I understand if you don't have time for the commission right away when I tell you I'm ready. I have some commissioners that asked me to move them in queue, that is absolutely not a problem because I always have something to work on. The only problem is when you say we are starting and you're dissapearing. I don't know then what to do, to continue on your commission or start another one. If possible let me know if you want to wait or if we are doing this now. Character sheet takes only one day to complete.

9. Kind of.. ignoring me  - It did happen not that rare that we have been discusing some details via skype and the commissioner dissapeared all of sudden and came back another day at my nighttime because I live in Poland and most of you live in America what means I usually have to be aware of timezones. When the person came back they told me something like: I had a phone and then I went out with friends and forgot I had internet turned on. Or they leave to make a coffe. Or to talk with parents orwifes. Or to do shopping. I just want to remind those people that behind chatbox there is a real person who waits for you.
:icontuzkicryplz:
Character sheet takes me a day to complete. 3 hours for preparing and analyzing references, fashion style, anime style and lineart, and about 6 or 7 hours drawing. But the longest time sometimes is to wait for the answer. I want to avoid it if possible. I treat you all very serious, I have my skype almost always opened, I'm trying to be online most of the time. I leave my computer on for weeks not to loose some references that I've opened, sometimes I download and take screens streight from the movie you like, to have a better idea of what you want. I spend much more time that you probably think I do, to make your sheet and that is how I show you respect. I wish for the same. So please don't ignore me when we finally will meet or if you have to, make a cup of tea also for me :iconorzplz:

10. Expecting me to do things that are not my responsibility - Like read their manga or watch the series. I sometimes do it to have a better idea but this is not my responsibility or my job. And it happened few times that a person told me, you want a references? go and find in google or go and watch the series. Download somewhere, I dunno.  Giving me links to the references is your job. I might look up for it in google and I always do it anyway, but please don't expect that from me.

11. Language - I don't understand slang and some of the shortcuts. I've learnt myself not to write notes too formal or that not everything has to be correct with epistolography rules . But I feel awkward if you write : Yo, write me a ch s one, plz whatzz price?
Cya!
I use shortcuts myself and make probably a lot of grammar mistakes but you are the better one because this is your native language :]

12. Didn't add me to watchlist - If you won't do it, you will probably miss journal entries like this one, journal updates and  commissions list too. And then I get many notes asking when do we start? a.  a. It's better to add me to your watchlist and after I'm finished with the commission remove me from your watchlist.

I know that is a lot of reading. And that it sounds harsh but those numbers are the things that kills time during drawing process. And time is something that I never have. Most of commissioners are great to work with and I never had a reason to complain.  When I look above I understand also my mistake. I write too long, maybe too much in the century where people don't read anymore. But I don't know how else I could express my feelings and let you kindly and delicately that those problems appears.
Other then that I wouldn't change this job for any other even though I had few opportunities in last three months to leave DA and go  work for a company. None company will give me so many ideas and experience in what I love to do; designing characters. Working for companies before I didn't find people being truly happy of the result because your O'c's are closer to your heart then any illustration or character for the company. Besides, doing commissions gave me so many different people around, and some of them became my best online friends so I wouldn't change that for anything else. The only thing I'd like is to avoid problems above.

Another month with No Targa shortenings or character introduction .... :iconmishacryplz: My heart is bleeding.

Wow!! I stumbled upon your artwork and profile via the main page - I'm here browsing artists to commission for a fiction project I'm working on (just character sketches, not illustrations or anything) I will have to watch for the next time you have an open slot. Is there somewhere on your page that lists your average prices? I know they'd vary from project to project, but you are definitely the top of my list for what I'm looking for. Thanks! :)
